Close-up of a young woman's eyes looking upward, in black and white with shades of purple. Over the image, in large letters: "Dá pra ver o mundo através da minha lupa", with the word "lupa" highlighted in green. At the top, the Casa Hacker logo and the credit "Casa Hacker Manifesto · Joana Black".

In our last post, «Longe do centro», we opened with Racionais MC’s. «Da Ponte pra Cá», by Mano Brown, speaks of belonging: the periphery seen from the inside, with its own code and pride in its place. From there, we measured Campinas sector by sector, by the distance from each piece of the city to the center.

This post begins on this side of the bridge. «Casa Hacker Manifesto» is the funk song that Joana Black, an artist from Campinas, composed and sings for Casa Hacker. There, the periphery appeared through distance. Here, it appears through what it has.

Technology is also made on this side of the bridge.

a sound that vibrates like the movement

This sound is a symbol of how our movement vibrates. The lyrics ask for neither permission nor apology. They look at the territory and see potential, innovation, and knowledge:

Usando ciência e mente com a tecnologia
Fazendo transformação dentro da minha periferia

This is the phrase that Casa Hacker has tried to put into practice since 2018: science and technology in the hands of those who live in the territory, transforming the territory from within. And the music looks far: «Dá pra ver o mundo através da minha lupa». A magnifying glass is the instrument of those who research. Those who live in the hood also produce knowledge about it.

The periphery is not just the place being studied. It is also the one who studies.

the lyric video

The release is a lyric video. The lyrics follow the voice, word by word, over scenes filmed for Casa Hacker’s institutional video. It has subtitles in Portuguese, English, Spanish, and French.

lyrics

Casa Hacker Manifesto
Joana Black

Então me fala o que você vai querer

Então me fala o que você vai querer

why this has everything to do with our mission

In our manifesto we make a commitment to treat technology as a right and as a language of power, not as a privilege for the few. «Casa Hacker Manifesto» is this commitment in the voice of those who live in the territory. When Casa Hacker is born, it is born alongside the certainty that the peripheries are not a place of waiting — they are a place of beginnings. And a place of beginnings also has a soundtrack.
